The setup for today’s problems began in the 1900’s, became real during the depression and later with government interference in the education system, now that a full generation is educated in the ways of socialism it doesn’t seem too bad to them that the government is taking responsibility for the bad decisions of people. "While socialism is often defined as government ownership or control of the means of production and distribution, a better understanding of socialism is obtained by consideration of its ostensible purpose or philosophy. Socialism is the political, social, and economic system growing out of the philosophy of government that it is the proper function and responsibility of government to promote the social welfare and prosperity of the people. Control of the means of production and distribution is the method by which those objectives are pursued under socialism. " 5 That is the crux of the matter. The government is offering you security in return for your freedom to succeed or fail. These are the basic freedoms inscribed by the founders of the constitution in that document. Championing this basic idea (freedom to choose and bear the consequence) caused them to go to war against the socialist nations of Europe. Socialism is not new, capitalism is not new. The founders knew both; they absolutely rejected socialism in any form and chose the mercantilism (capitalism) that subsequently fueled the richest and freest nation on earth, America. They made no apology for our success, no apology for our foundation on Judeo Christian values, no apology for wanting other nations to be like us and learn how to emulate the best governmental form on earth. Our current President does not understand this nor believe in it. He is pushing us further into the socialistic mode, apologizing to the world for our success and has no understanding of the blood that was shed to establish and maintain this nation. The road that a government takes to tyranny begins with a benevolent effort to solve human needs. However, the proposed solutions usually involve the destruction of individual property rights. This proceeds slowly, with attention diverted to human suffering, while the government initiates additional programs, which violate the right of private, property, usually by taking from one group and giving to another. One of the insidious aspects of government paternalism is that it robs people of the desire to be free. They would much rather have security and will trade it away because it means nothing to them. Lest you think I am alarmist I offer you the following quotes: 1. "If we can but prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them, they must become happy." - Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Cooper, 29 November 1802[1] 2. "To preserve our independence, we must not let our politicians load us with perpetual debt. We must make our choice between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of caring for them, the people will be much happier.” Thomas Jefferson 3. “Most of the major ills of the world have been caused by well-meaning people who ignored the principle of individual freedom, except as applied to themselves, and who were obsessed with fanatical zeal to improve the lot of mankind-in-the-mass through some pet formula of their own... the harm done by ordinary criminals, murderers, gangsters, and thieves is negligible in comparison with the agony inflicted upon human beings by the professional "do-gooders", who attempt to set themselves up as gods on earth and who would ruthlessly force their views on all others – with the abiding assurance that the ends justify the means.” Henry Grady Weaver, The Mainspring of Human Progress, pp 40–41. 4. "As, and if, we move toward that condition there will be a gradual loss of our freedom, an increase of the inducements for the acceptance of communism, and a corresponding increase in the pressures to destroy or remove all opponents and all opposition to the communist advance. There would be a further huge expansion of government and off its control over our economy, education, medical services, and every detail of our family and individual lives. During such a period, it is reasonable to expect -- unless sufficient brakes are put on the present stampede to the left, we will get exactly what the communist-socialist coalition is planning -- the nationalization of the insurance, transportation, communications, utilities, banks, farms, housing, hospitals, and schools. To take over our schools the educational system will first have been federalized and then prostituted entirely to serving the propaganda needs of the state planners with absolutely no regard for truth or scholarship or tradition.
